Local government officials had the most number of cases filed by the Office of the Ombudsman before the Sandiganbayan in 2015.
Based on data from the Ombudsman, there were 207 cases filed against local officials last year.
The Local Government Unit (LGU) category retained its position on the Ombudsman’s list as the agency with the most number of cases filed since 2013.
As for 2015, LGU officials were followed by members of the House of Representatives with 58 cases, and personnel of the Philippine National Police with 30 cases.
The Department of Education and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources were also in the top five of government agencies with the most number of cases filed, with 11 and five cases filed against their officials, respectively.
A total of 343 charges were filed with the Sandiganbayan, which was a 22-percent fall from 441 in 2014.
The top offenses were violation of Section 3(e) of the anti-graft law (134 cases), violation of Sec. 5(c)in relation to Section 52(g) of Republic Act 8291 or the Government Insurance Act (43 cases), and violation of the Act Amending the National Internal Revenue Code.
