US Embassy and ABS-CBN partner for creek clean-up Earth Day concert
US Ambassador Philip Goldberg led the activities for #1Earth, a joint Earth Day creek clean-up and concert project at Estero de Pandacan in Manila with ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.’s environment arm Kapit-Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig.
Members of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, students of the English Access Microscholarship Program, the US Embassy’s Green Team, and the Foundation’s “River Warriors” participated in the activities.
Ambassador Goldberg said, “We’ve contributed about $46 million over the last decade in partnership with the Philippines on environmental projects . . . anything that can be done to draw awareness to the environment and to clean up this river, as well as the Pasig [River] is very important and we are happy to do our part for #1Earth.”
Following the clean-up, ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. chairman Gina Lopez welcomed the ambassador and watched the Earth Day concert, a treat that left the eager participants and residents of the nearby villages in awe. Guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (Art of Anarchy, DMC/Generation Kill, Lita Ford, and Guns N’ Roses), The Voice Philippines 2013 champion Mitoy, Pilipinas Got Talent champion Jovit Baldivino, and Razorback performed before the jam-packed crowd.
#1Earth is US Embassy Manila’s contribution to www.earthday.org’s “billion acts of green,” and the first joint project with ABS-CBN Foundation to mobilize local communities to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and increase resilience to global climate change.
