MARAWI CITY: Soraya Alonto-Adiong and her son, outgoing Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto-Adiong Jr., were among the first to file certificates of candidacy (COC) in Lanao del Sur in tandem for governor and vice-governor respectively under the Liberal Party (LP).
Bombit personally filed his certificate but Soraya filed her candidacy through a proxy. Soraya is daughter of late Domocao Alonto, the first Muslim senator in the country.
Other politicians are yet to file their COCs this week.
Close associates of outgoing Marawi City Fahad “Pre” Salic said the mayor will file his candidacy on October 15 and will run against Soraya. Salic will be in tandem with Mohammadali Abinal as his vice governor under United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Meanwhile, no one has filed a COC at the Comelec office in Lanao del Norte amid reported break away of LP supporters in the province.
Pantao Ragat town Mayor Neshreen “Eleanor” Dimaporo-Lantud recently bolted from LP and joined Vice President Jejomar Binay’s political party on Friday.
Eleanor is reported to be the running mate of Rep. Imelda Dimaporo, who aims to replace her son, incumbent governor Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo, an LP stalwart.
