Sixteen top automotive brands showcased their latest vehicles at the fifth edition of the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) at the World Trade Center in Pasay City (Metro Manila) that opened on Thursday.
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (Campi) brought together in the biennial event BAIC, BMW, Daewoo, Honda, Isuzu, JMC, Kia, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Suzuki, Toyota and Volkswagen.
Campi President Rommel Gutierrez, also the first vice president for corporate affairs of Toyota, said car sales contribute four percent to the Gross Domestic Product while the industry itself gives out 12 percent.
“Our growth for the past three years has more than doubled. For the first half of the year, our increase [in sales]is at 25 percent,” Gutierrez told The Manila Times.
He said 150,000 vehicles were sold from January to August this year.
“We will surpass our sales last year for sure,” Gutierrez added.
