COMPETITORS in the National Drift Series (NDS) on September 14 battled it out on the wet racetrack at the Libis Mega Tent as 14 drivers vied for top honors in the Novice Class while 12 veteran drift racers gunned for the top plum in the Open Class.
Team Motul-Achilles drift racer Luis Gono registered a solid drive in the Tandem Run competition aboard a 400-horsepower Nissan 240SX, dominating over the competitors in Novice Class to clinch the “Elite Eight,” and finally moving on to take the top two spots of the category. The competition saw a close fight between Gono and Nankang-Driftmob Team’s EJ Malibiran, with the two racers having had to do four tandem runs in order to determine the Novice Class champion.
“It was intense, and the rains made it more difficult for us around the track. There were times when I thought that I would spin out,” said Gono, who hoped to go into the final leg with enough accumulated points to clinch the NDS title.
NDS, organized by the First KMT Group and DMF Drift, is sponsored by Motul, Atoy Customs, Rota Wheels, Racks and Tonka.
