Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), the tollways subsidiary of Manny Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), said it is looking for opportunities to participate in toll road projects in Visayas and Mindanao to improve roads and transportation means in the country.
“We would like to look at Mindanao for future project, but it’s very very raw right now. The third largest city is Davao, so normally the bigger city attracts more vehicles. The bigger city attracts traffic, the bigger city that eventually needs new roads,” said Ramoncito Fernandez, president and chief executive officer of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.
Also, Fernandez said that it is going back to its plans anew to build a large-scale bridge that will connect Mactan Island to Cordova, Cebu City.
“We are still pursuing this Cebu Third Bridge option which will connect Cebu City and Mactan Island,” he told reporters, noting that MPTC is expected to shell out about P17 billion for the project.
The toll bridge project was put at a standstill due to forecasted low traffic in the area.
Earlier, Fernandez is encouraging both the public and private sector to work together in doubling toll roads across the country to 600 kilometers from the 300 kilometers currently.
