Muntinlupa goes green

Muntinlupa City is full-steam ahead in going green! The city recently purchased 10 electric jeepneys to be used within its city limits. The project, bubbed the E-JRF or the Electric-Jeepney Ride for Free, was launched by Mayor Jaime Fresnedi of Muntinlupa City during their flag raising ceremony recently.

The E-JRF route is from Starmall Alabang to the South Station and vice versa. Additional routes will be introduced later. To pay for their rides, commuters of the E-JRF can use their Muntinlupa Care Card, a multipurpose smart card that can be used to avail of the various programs and services in the city. “This Care Card hopes to have every program of the local government accessible to every member of the Muntinlupeno family,” Fresnedi said.

“Muntinlupa truly exemplifies a progressive city which is willing to make a difference by sustaining the environment and protecting the health of its constituents at the same time. With e-jeepneys plying Muntinlupa, pollution will be reduced and the riding public will have access to a cleaner and modern mode of transport. We hope other cities will follow suit,” said John Marasigan, sales manager of PhUV Inc. that supplied the e-jeepneys.

PhUV is the pioneer in the local assembly of electric vehicles in the country.
