The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed murder charges against two police officers and a dismissed policeman allegedly involved in the killing of a leader of a kidnap-for-ransom group and his companion.
Director Virgilio Mendez identified the suspects as Police Officer 2 Mark de Paz, PO2 Jerome Datuinginoo and Marco Polo Estrera, a dismissed policeman with the rank of inspector.
The complaint was filed by Marites Fajardo, wife of one of the victims, Rolando.
Rolando and Thomas Andaya were killed when their car was strafed by unidentified gunmen on June 24 this year in Barangay Bagong Kalsada, Calamba City, Laguna province.
Marcilano Batan Jr., who was with the Fajardo and Andaya, identified the gunmen from a photo line-up.
Estrera and his two companions were placed under the restrictive custody of then Director Richard Albano of the Quezon City Police District at Camp Karingal but they later went missing.
Fajardo and his brother Harold were tagged in the 1986 kidnapping of Japanese executive Noboyuki Wakaoji.
