VETERAN actress Susan Roces squelched persistent rumors that Senator Grace Poe’s real mother is her sister, Rosemary Sonora.
“If it were true why would I hide this?” she told reporters in Iloilo.
Roces said she was with her sister everyday on the year Poe was born.
“My sister was very busy doing television shows. She was never pregnant, that was 1968, the year I got married,” she added.
Poe, according to scuttlebutt, was the love child of former president Ferdinand Marcos and Sonora.
Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier categorically dismissed the rumors.
Roces was in Cebu Tuesday to campaign for her daughter.
She admitted that winning the support of Ilonggos will not be easy because they may already have their preferred candidates.
Iloilo is the bailiwick of Sen. Franklin Drilon, the vice chairman of the Liberal Party.
Drilon earlier claimed that Iloilo will carry the candidates of the administration party and that Poe’s Ilonggo roots will not have an impact on voters.
But Roces was unfazed.
“Tulad ng ibang mga kandidato, naririto kami para ipaliwanag kung ano ang mga plano ng mga kandidato para sa darating na halalan. At nasa mga botante natin na malayang piliin kung sino sa inaakala nila ang dapat nilang iboto [Like other candidates, we are here to explain to the people the plan of our candidates and we will leave it to the people to choose who they think deserve their votes],” she said in an interview at La Paz public market.
The actress said that Iloilo is very close to their family because aside from being the birthplace of Poe, her ancestors are natives of Molo town.
“Part of my childhood is in Iloilo, then we moved to Baguio, then from Baguio we moved back to Manila. From Manila, to Bacolod,” Roces explained.
She said she will actively campaign for her daughter as long she can.
