Naga City marching band wins


BACOOR CITY, Cavite: The Mariners from Naga City topped the marching band competition held on Sunday at Talaba Junction Stadium in this city.

It was the second straight year that the entry from Naga City won the contest held in celebration of Bacoor City’s founding anniversary.

Bacoor Mayor Strike Revilla and 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado Revilla awarded the P50,000 champion’s purse to Mariners. The second runner-up won P30,000, the third placer took P20,000 and the fourth placer bagged P10,000.

Revilla said Bacoor City is now dubbed as the “Marching Band Capital of the Philippines” for staging the country’s only marching band contest.

Manager Dante La Jimenez said the Mariners is composed of 90 students from the Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation in Naga City.

Around 10,000 people watched the competition which attracted 52 marching bands nationwide.
