Filipina boxer and mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Jujeath Nagaowa crushed her Chinese foe Lou Yu Jie to capture the vacant Women’s International Boxing Association (IBA) International light flyweight title at the Forum de Macau recently.
Nagaowa, a regular MMA fighter in One Championship, dismantled Lou with a series of upper cuts as well as powerful left and right hooks in the entire 10 rounds to score a unanimous decision win.
“Super happy and blessed with this victory, I never expected my opponent would fight tougher and stronger,” Nagaowa, 27, a former World Boxing Council women’s atomweight champion, told The Manila Times in a phone interview on Tuesday. “That’s why the fight went to decision.”
Unlike Filipino-American former women’s bantamweight world champion Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton, the puny boxer from Benguet Mountain Province is yet to gain a huge number of followers in boxing and MMA because of lack of publicity.
Nagaowa’s win-loss-draw record improved to 13-15-1 with eight knockouts while Lou’s record dropped to 3-7 with one knockout.
“I really need to improve my style, my counter-punching and technical skills so far. I thought my good days in boxing are already over, but my new trainers and coach gave me a new hope to start again,” Nagaowa added. “Way to go, I’m ready for the new chapter in my boxing career.”
