Napocor approves P37-M power projects


THE National Power Corp. (Napocor) has already awarded the contract for the construction of two New Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) in Calaguas Island in Camarines Norte and Camandag Island in Western Samar.

Napocor said the Calaguas Island power plant will have a target capacity of 90 kilowatts (kW) while the Camandag power plant is expected to generate 100 kW.

The projects, which have a combined cost of P37,271,000, are expected to help improve the livelihood, tourism and development programs of the said islands.

Calaguas Island with its 1,232 households boasts of its unspoiled beaches and trekking sites while Camandag Island with 910 households sustains its fishing and copra industry and also its potential as a tourist destination.

Napocor said the construction of distribution lines will be covered by the Sitio Electrification Program and Barangay Line Enhancement Program of the National Electrification Administration (NEA).

The supply will be distributed to local electric cooperatives, namely; the Samar Electric Cooperative (SAMELCO) and Camarines Sur Electric Cooperative (CASURECO).
