Businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles refused to enter any plea during her arraignment on 12 counts of tax evasion at the Court of Tax Appeals’ (CTA) Third Division.
Napoles’ alleged tax liability amounted to P18.4 million, based on the charge sheets.
“Upon the advice of my counsel, I refuse to enter plea,” she told the tax court after the first charge was read to her during the arraignment on Wednesday afternoon.
Napoles also refused to enter any plea to succeeding charges.
Because of her refusal, the court entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf pursuant to the Rules of Court.
Meanwhile, her lawyer was fined P2,000 for arriving late in court.
Napoles is also facing plunder and graft charges at the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel scam.
She is serving life sentence at the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City (Metro Manila) after a court in Makati City (also in Metro Manila) found her guilty in a serious illegal detention case filed by pork scam witness Benhur Luy.
