Janet Lim-Napoles slept well on her fifth night of detention onThursday at a police training camp in Santa Rosa, Laguna province.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Friday that Napoles, the woman in the center of the multi-billion-peso pork barrel scam, did not have any medical issues and had a good night’s sleep.
Napoles, who has diabetes and claustrophobia, has been having problems adjusting to life in detention since being transferred to Fort Santo Domingo last Sunday.
She reportedly had an anxiety attack on her first night, and her sugar level and blood pressure shot up.
But on Friday morning, a routine medical check-up indicated that Napoles’ blood pressure and sugar level were normal, Sindac said.
After the check-up, Napoles had scrambled egg, meatloaf and rice for breakfast, Sindac said.
Napoles is charged with serious illegal detention for the alleged abduction of her cousin and employee, Benhur Luy.
The detainee may have no complaints about her quarters, but her lawyer, Lorna Kapunan, has.
Kapunan has complained to Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Elmo Alameda there were too many surveillance cameras in Napoles’ detention facility.
The lawyer said the cameras intruded into her client’s privacy.
Authorities installed the cameras for security reasons, Napoles being a “high profile” detainee with threats to her life.
At the hearing, Alameda granted Kapunan’s urgent motion to move Napoles’ arraignment to September 23 from September 6.
The judge approved Kapunan’s request after the lawyer assured her client was not planning to escape.
“She’s not going anywhere. There’s no danger of escape or flight. What is the deferment of arraignment for a few days if the end of justice would be served,” said Kapunan.
Kapunan said she wanted the arraignment deferred because there were other pending motions she filed before the Makati court and the Court of Appeals (CA).
Alameda conceded the court has not enough time to deliberate on the three motions filed by Napoles and her brother Reynald Lim.
Pending before Alameda’s sala and the appeals court are motion for bills of particulars, requesting information on the charge against her and petition for certiorari questioning the legality of the warrant of arrest issued against Napoles.
