Doctors of Janet Lim-Napoles, the key figure in the pork barrel fund scam, found no complications after her surgery to remove a cyst in her uterus.
The observation was contained in a progress report officials of the government-run Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) submitted to the Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 150 on Wednesday.
The court, presided by Judge Elmo Alameda, is handling the serious illegal detention case against Napoles.
The one-page report was submitted and signed by Dr. Perry Ishmael Peralta, OsMak’s medical director and Dr. Florentina Villanueva, head of the hospital’s Obstetrician/Gynecologist Department.
According to a court staffer interviewed by The Manila Times, OsMak officials reported that Napoles could be discharged anytime soon, without giving a specific date.
Peralta earlier said that barring complications, it will take 26 days for Napoles to fully recover.
Apart from the serious illegal detention case, she is also facing plunder charges in connection with the pork barrel scam.
Napoles is being accused of conspiring with lawmakers, including Senators Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada, to pocket millions of pesos in kickbacks from transactions involving pork barrel releases.
The serious detention case was filed by her former employee and main whistleblower Benhur Luy.
Napoles’ legal counsel Faye Singson has said that her client might stay for another three weeks in the hospital because she needs to be examined by her doctors.
Napoles had her entire uterus and ovaries removed in the operation.
Once she is fit enough to leave the hospital, Napoles will be brought back to Fort Sto. Domingo in Santa Rosa Ctiy, Laguna, where she has been detained. RITCHIE A. HORARIO
