• Napoles’ surgery set on Friday – lawyer

THE anticipated surgery of businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind, may not push through until Friday, according to her legal counsel.

Lawyer Bruce Rivera, one of Napoles’ legal counsels said they still have to wait three days for the result of the endometrial biopsy performed on his client.

Rivera confirmed that Napoles underwent biopsy procedure at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the government-run Ospital ng Makati (OsMak).

He said it took 10 minutes for physicians to take sample tissues from Napoles for the biopsy.

Her private doctors from St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, Rivera added, took sample tissues from her endometrium and cervix for laboratory testing.

Dr. Perry Ishmael Peralta, OsMak medical director, earlier explained that under such procedure, tissue samples will be extracted from Napoles’ uterus particularly in her endometrium to know whether her ovarian cyst is benign or malignant.

Peralta also said that the result of the biopsy will be released after three days, that means, if will be made available only on Friday.

With this, Rivera said they are not expecting that Napoles to be operated on in the next three days since her doctors have to wait for the results of the biopsy.

“We were told that the doctors need the results of the biopsy before they begin the surgery,” Rivera said.

Peralta earlier said the result of the biopsy would determine the next procedure to be performed on Napoles.

She was found to have a cyst in her uterus after she complained of abdominal pain and bleeding.

The alleged pork scam mastermind had begged the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 150, which tries her serious illegal detention charges, to be immediately operated because she has been in “constant pain.”

Napoles’ plea was granted by Makati RTC 150 Judge Elmo Alameda, who allowed her transfer to OsMak, where she is currently confined.

Diosfa Valencia, the clerk of court, earlier said the court was clueless on why it took so long to perform a surgery on Napoles to remove a cyst in her uterus.

Prior to her confinement at OsMak, Napoles was detained at Fort Sto. Domingo for her serious illegal detention case, a non-bailable offense, filed by her cousin, pork barrel fund scam main whistleblower Benhur Luy.
