AFTER three weeks of confinement at the government-run Ospital ng Makati (OsMak), Janet Lim-Napoles, the alleged pork barrel scam brains, is set to undergo surgery tonight.
Napoles’ legal counsel, Fay Isaguirre Singson, on Monday said she learned of the schedule when she talked with her client on Saturday.
The lawyer, however, said she did not know what procedures Napoles will undergo to treat her uterine myoma since she was not furnished the results of her endometrial biopsy.
Dr. Perry Ishmael Peralta, OsMak medical director, earlier said the extent of the next procedure on Napoles will depend on the findings of the biopsy.
The biopsy was conducted to determine whether the cyst sample from Napoles’ uterus was malignant or benign.
Singson said she still has to meet with the private doctors of Napoles to know the resultsof the biopsy, which was administered to her earlier this month.
The surgery, she added, will be performed by Dr. Elsie Badillo-Pascua, an obstetrician-gynecologist affiliated with St. Luke’s Medical Center in Fort Bonifacio Global City and other Napoles doctors.
The Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 150 allowed Doctors Efren Domingo, Leo Aquizilan, Michael Lim-Villa, Nick Cruz and an anesthesiologist to perform and administer medical procedures and treatment to Napoles.
Dr. Florentina Villanueva, the head of OsMak’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, was appointed to head the OsMak medical team coordinating with Napoles’ physicians during her treatment.
Napoles has been confined in Osmak since she was transferred on March 31 from her detention facility at Fort Santo Domingo in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
According to her doctors, Napoles has myoma uteri.
She has been complaining of profuse vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain since late last year and begged for hospital confinement and surgery.
Makati RTC Judge Elmo Alameda granted Napoles’ plea provided that the operations were done in a government hospital like the OsMak.
Napoles has been detained for the serious illegal detention case, a non-bailable offense, filed against her by pork scam main whistleblower Benhur Luy.
She is also facing plunder complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the alleged P10-billion pork barrel scam and the misuse of the Malampaya fund.
Alameda said Napoles’ period of confinement at OsMak shall cover only the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative procedures.
