THE Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has activated the Christmas Express lane on EDSA, a police official said on Tuesday.
The director of the PNP-HPG, Chief Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, told reporters in a chance interview at Camp Crame in Quezon City that the Christmas Express lane was activated but for this holiday season only to ease up traffic along EDSA.
The police official said the lane will be activated starting on the first week of December until the first week of January next year.
Gunnacao added that the HPG will be using for the Christmas Express lane the barriers for an express lane that was especially created for delegates to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders’ meeting last month in Manila.
Police creating the express lane was heavily criticized by the public for causing traffic jams on major thoroughfares during the week-long event.
The HPG director said the Christmas Express lane will be the innermost part of EDSA’s southbound lane starting from Shaw Boulevard up to the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City (Metro Manila).
