AFTER tying up with the operator of the North Luzon
Expressway (NLEX) and with Super-Ferry, Smart Communications Inc.
announced it will offer a similar electronic payment system for
Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT 3).
The new venture pits Smart with
leading rival Globe Telecom Inc., which already offers an electronic
payment system for MRT 3 commuters through its G-Pass.
Smart and MetroPass System Inc.
have partnered to offer electronic payment system through Smart
Money PayPass.
Besides electronic payment, the
two companies will also offer innovative mobile and Internet
applications that will leverage on their combined strengths in
business processes and technology.
“This will culminate in a
single ‘contactless’ card that will empower people to purchase
essential services such as transport, mobile-phone reloading, bill
payments, and remittances across physical, Internet and mobile
spaces,” Smart said in a statement.
“Our partnership with MetroPass
is very strategic. Through the tie-up, we will be able to bring our
innovative services closer to our 25 million subscribers and give
them added convenience,” Napoleon L. Nazareno, Smart president and
chief executive officer, said.
