Holy Week special: Riddles of the Bible

The Ark of the Covenant, the ten plagues of Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, the great flood and Noah’s Ark. These are just some of the most famous stories written in the Bible. But were they real?

In this special Lenten season presentation dubbed Riddles of the Bible, National Geographic, with the help of biblical archaeologists, religious scholars, geologists, forensic astronomers, paleo-entomologists, meteorologists, biologists, physicists, seismologists, and volcanologists set out to scour the globe for the most elusive and controversial goal in biblical research: to find out whether or not the stories of the Bible are based on real events.

Lost Cities (April 2, 6 p.m.) investigates one of the most infamous stories in the Bible—a tale of two cities gone bad—Sodom and Gomorrah, destroyed as God’s retribution for scandalous sin. Then, centuries after God does away with Sodom and Gomorrah, He sides with Joshua to conquer another misbehaving city—Jericho. Are these Bible stories fact or moral fable? Biblical scholars and scientists look to archaeological and geological evidence to uncover the mysteries of the Lost Cities. (Replays on April 3 at 5 a.m. and April 9 at 9 a.m.)

The Hunt for the Ark of the Covenant (April 3, 6 p.m.) takes NGC viewers on an epic scholarly journey around the world, in search of the truth behind one of the most coveted artifacts of the Bible—the Lost Ark. (Replays on April 4 at 5 a.m. and April 10 at 9 a.m.)

The Secrets of Revelation (April 4, 6 p.m.) tells of a new theory that all the prophecies mentioned in the book of Revelations—the Battle of Armageddon, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and the Beast whose number is 666—have already come true. (Replays on April 5 at 5 a.m. and April 11 at 9 a.m.)

Exodus Revealed (April 5, 6 p.m.) features a scientific investigation of the ten plagues of Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea to determine if the biblical story of Exodus really happened. (Replays on April 6 at 5 a.m. and April 12 at 9 a.m.)

Search for Noah (April 6, 6 p.m.) will recreate, using computer generated images based on new scientific evidence, the gigantic ancient flood which Noah, his family and a handful of animals avoided using a great wooden boat. (Replays on April 7 at 5 a.m. and April 13 at 9 a.m.)
