BALANGA City, Bataan: Bishop
Socrates Villegas on Palm Sunday called on everyone to make the days
of the Holy Week blessed by giving love to their fellowmen,
especially to the poor.
“Ang buod ng Mahal na Araw ay
hindi sakripisyo, hindi pagpapakasakit kundi pagmamahal at pagmamalasakit
sa mga dukha na tinatatwag nating the ‘least, the lost’ sa ating
lipunan,” the bishop of the Balanga City parish said.
Father Soc, as the bishop loves
to be addressed, said that the days of the Holy Week are called
mahal because the Lord Jesus Christ poured all his love during these
days when He permitted Himself to be crucified on the cross.
The Holy Week as observed by
Catholics started Palm Sunday and to end Sunday of Resurrection, or
Linggo ng Pagkabuhay.
The former spokesman of the late
Jaime Cardinal Sin said that what will lead us to the doors of
heaven is our love and caring for the poor. “Even prayers without
concerns for the poor and the oppressed will not be heeded by
God,” the bishop said.
Meanwhile, replicas of calvary in
various parts of Bataan, more especially in the towns of Samal,
Orani and Abucay, are almost ready for the reading by singing of the
“Passion of Christ.”
The “calvaries” are of
different sizes and shapes. In some, the reading of the pasyon
started Sunday while others would start on Holy Monday morning and
end on the night of Good Friday.
