Company foreman drowns in Rizal

RODRIGUEZ, Rizal: A 26-year-old company foreman drowned to death during an excursion Sunday morning here.

The victim, who was declared dead on arrival at the H-Ville Hospital, was Edwin Esquivel, a resident of No. 49 Apitong Street, Marikina Heights, Marikina City.

According to the report of Senior Supt. Freddie Panen, the incident occurred about 3:30 a.m. at the Villa Monica Resort on E. Rodriguez Highway, Barangay San Jose.

It was learned that the victim was last seen swimming in the pool and in a few minutes later, he was found floating, dead.

They only noticed the victim’s body when they called out for him and the victim failed to respond.

Thinking that the victim was pulling a joke when he just floated on the water, the officemates tried to ignore him. However, noticing that he was immobile after a few minutes, they jumped into the water for his body to try to revive him.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police suspected that the victim suffered arthritis.

An autopsy is being done to check if there was foul play.
