DOLE says nursing examination
retake preparations all set

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Monday that it’s all systems go for the special voluntary retake of nurses for Tests 3 and 5 of the leak-tainted June 2006 nurses licensure examination.

Labor and Employment Secretary Arturo Brion said the preparations for the retake exam were in full blast to include special review classes for interested nurses.

This developed as the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Board of Nursing (BON) announced that the filing of applications for special voluntary retake starts on April 2 until May 11, 2007.

The deadline of the registration for the special review classes is on April 4.

Brion said the filing by representatives will be allowed for those who cannot come personally during the filing period. However, he said that applicants are required to personally claim the Notice of Admission (NOA) from the PRC at least one week before the examination.

He also announced that new review classes are available in Central Luzon (Angeles University Foundation); Western Visayas (to be conducted by Siliman University in Bacolod City); and western Mindanao (to be conducted by Xavier University in Zamboanga City).

He also clarified that some review class schedules have been canceled due to lack of enrollees.

“We advise the registrants to check the status of their enrollment online at www.specialnursingr-eview.dole.gov.ph,” Brion said.

“Affected registrants are advised to enroll for available class schedules using change schedule option in the website.”

He added that some review class schedules had been closed because they were already full and could no longer accommodate reviewees.

Meanwhile, Brion said that those filing the application for the special voluntary retake examination must submit the June 2006 NOA (if still available); photocopies of certificate of registration and professional identification card, if issued already; photocopy of transcript of records; and photocopy of birth certificate.

He said that voluntary retakers of Tests 3 and 5 on June 11, 2007, shall no longer pay the examination fee.

The DOLE initiated the special voluntary retake for the employability of the nurses licensed under the June 2006 nursing board exam after the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) required the retake of Tests 3 and 5 for those applying for the VisaScreen Certificate.

Brion said the retake may be taken once only—either in June or December this year, at the examinees’ choice.

He also clarified that the results of the special voluntary retake shall not affect the validity of the licenses previously issued by PRC.
