CEBU City: A top official of the Mactan-Cebu
International Airport (MCIA) in Lapu-Lapu City has assured people
traveling through the airport of safety during the Lenten holidays.
Danilo Augusto Francia, MCIA
general manager, said they are ready in terms of security and
availability of services to accommodate inbound and outbound
passengers in Cebu.
Francia said they would put emphasis on the security of the gates,
which would include thorough baggage checks.
He said this has been in place
year-round and airport security personnel have familiarized
themselves with the peak hours in the site as part of efforts to
beef up security checks.
“On a daily basis, we have the
peak hours. For domestic flights, it is between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.
and between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. while the peak hours for international
flights are usually in the late evenings,” he said.
Francia said they anticipate the
loads of passengers that will arrive and disembark during the Lenten
holidays, prompting them to request airline companies to open more
counters. “Actually, they have been doing that already. We just
have to remind them this time,” he added.
Francia said that, beyond
assuring travelers that the airport is secure, the focus should be
on the safety of travel such as proper plane maintenance.
“Well, we do not take our
holidays so we have people here all the time,” he added.
