GAMES and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain was
saddened by the death of Lito Sisnorio and promised to help the
boxer’s family through the Boxers Welfare Fund.
The 24-year-old Sistorio was
reported to have sustained serious head injuries after losing to
former Thai WBC super flyweight champion Chatchai Sasakul in a fight
Friday.
The Filipino fighter was rushed
to the Bangkok’s Piyamin hospital for emergency surgery due to
blood clot in his brain but died late Saturday.
At the same time, Buhain has
asked the legal department to investigate the case and if possible,
to file cases against those persons involved in this illegal
activity.
The GAB said boxing manager
Gemmil Contayoso will be held liable if the investigation shows that
he has mismanaged the career of Sisnorio.
Buhain has likewise informed the
matter to all international boxing bodies and has requested that the
promoter of the fight be held accountable to the incident.
The GAB did not issue a travel
authority to Sisnorio to fight abroad after the boxer failed to meet
three important policies as mandated by Resolution 05-71 issued by
the Board. He also did not renew his license this year.
Buhain said that GAB is
suspending indefinitely the issuance of travel authority to all
Filipino boxers who wanted to fight in Thailand.
Thailand Boxing has failed on
several occasions to request Filipino boxers to provide them with
the travel authority from GAB before allowing them to step on the
ring. Since they have not shown any concern on the dangers that
boxers are to go thru, the GAB Board will implement this “No fight
in Thailand” policy effective immediately.
