RP archers in World Cup tourney

A 15-MAN Philippine archery team left Sunday for Ulsan, Korea to compete in the 2007 Meteksan Archery World Cup slated this week.

The delegation headed by team manager Siegfredo Velasquez is composed of recurve archers Marvin Cordero and Mark Javier and compound archers Amaya Paz, Jennifer Chan, Joann Tabanag, Abigail Tindugan, Earl Benjamin Yap, Enrique Cojuangco, Gil Gabriel and Adam Jimenez, assistant team manager Bernard Yap, coaches Karl Francis Achacoso and Choi Won Tae and supporter Leina Mae Bolinas.

Nine athletes and one official were supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Cordero is backed by IOC Solidarity being the 2007 recipient of IOC scholarship for the Beijing Olympics while Yap, Achacoso, Choi and Bolinas paid their own expenses.

Accel Philippines, the team’s official outfitter, donated a set of jogging suit and six pieces of T-shirts to each delegation member.

The women’s compound team bagged the bronze medal in last year’s Meteksan World Cup held in Shanghai, China. Russia and the United States won the gold and silver, respectively.
