A 15-MAN Philippine archery team left Sunday for Ulsan, Korea to
compete in the 2007 Meteksan Archery World Cup slated this week.
The delegation headed by team manager Siegfredo
Velasquez is composed of recurve archers Marvin Cordero and Mark
Javier and compound archers Amaya Paz, Jennifer Chan, Joann Tabanag,
Abigail Tindugan, Earl Benjamin Yap, Enrique Cojuangco, Gil
Gabriel and Adam Jimenez, assistant team manager Bernard Yap,
coaches Karl Francis Achacoso and Choi Won Tae and supporter Leina
Mae Bolinas.
Nine athletes and one official were supported by
the Philippine Sports Commission, Cordero is backed by IOC
Solidarity being the 2007 recipient of IOC scholarship for the
Beijing Olympics while Yap, Achacoso, Choi and Bolinas paid their
own expenses.
Accel Philippines, the team’s official
outfitter, donated a set of jogging suit and six pieces of T-shirts
to each delegation member.
The women’s compound team bagged the bronze
medal in last year’s Meteksan World Cup held in Shanghai, China.
Russia and the United States won the gold and silver, respectively.
