GMA Network Inc. said it is setting aside hundred
millions of pesos to finance its regional expansion.
In a statement, Gilberto R.
Duavit Jr., GMA executive vice- president, said the company will
spend about P170 million for the said venture. Funding will come
from internally-generated cash.
“With these regional expansion
projects already in progress, every household in the country,
including those in remote areas can now look forward to a more
enjoyable viewing experience of their favorite Kapuso programs. With
our programs now more accessible, we expect the regional ratings to
increase significantly,” Duavit said.
The company will improve
transmitter facilities in the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Legazpi and
General Santos, and in Batangas province.
Preparations for the construction
of a new tower in Naga City are underway, the company said.
“The new Naga transmitter and
signal upgrade project is set to be completed by July, with the
commissioning of a new originating station in the city scheduled for
within the year,” it added.
The company also plans to upgrade
the Legazpi Tower and Antenna System to improve GMA’s coverage and
reach in the viewer-rich Bicol Region.
The GMA’s TV studio in
Iloilo is under construction and is expected to be completed by
June, while the construction of its studio complex in Davao and
Dagupan will start this month with completion seen in October.
