Economic gains help reduce power rates

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga: Locators and investors in this new free port confirmed the recent announcement that the reduction of power rates effective last month was part of Palace’s efforts to help investors in the country.

Locators at the Clark Freeport Zone alone will benefit from power cut and are expected to save at least P40 million a month this year because of Mrs. Arroyo’s economic gains last year.

There are more than 350 active locators in Clark expected to benefit from the approved reduced power rates by the Energy Regulatory Commission recently.

Clark Development Corp. President Levy P. Laus said current economic gains make Clark, not only attractive to prospective local and foreign investors but also to established locators most of whom now consider expansion.

The CDC regulatory department reported that a discount of P.25 a kilowatt-hour for Clark has brought down further the power rate in Clark to about Php5.33 per kilowatts hour compared to the October 2006 rate of 5.58/kwh.

Reports stated that the reduced rates translate to an approximate savings of P0.63 million a month to an individual locator that consumes the highest power load in Clark.
