PSC to cut down officials in SEAG

THE Philippine Sports Commission will limit the number of officials instead of trimming down the athletes for the 24th Thailand Southeast Asian Games in Nakhon Ratchasima province slated December 6-15.

PSC commissioner Richie Garcia said that the oversight committee might cut down the number of officials due to budgetary constraint to accommodate other athletes who will pass the criteria set by the SEA Games Task Force.

“We are looking for that possible solution to give chance to potential medalists. Kung hindi naman kailangan ‘yung official, doon tayo magbabawas,” said Garcia who also heads the Task Force along with co-members Julian Camacho of wushu, Mark Joseph of swimming, Romeo Ribano of squash and PSC commissioner Joey Mundo.

The Task Force now has 356 initial lists of athletes that include gold and silver medalists in the 2005 Manila SEA Games and all medalists in the 2006 Doha Asian Games.

Big bulk of athletes from team events such as basketball, football and volleyball are expected to be added in the delegation when the Task Force start meeting with the National Sports Associations next week.
