THIRD seed Jasmine Tan Ho barged into the girls’
14-under semifinals after posting a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Akiko de
Guzman Thursday in the 8th Truflex National Age Group Tennis
Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
In the girls’ 16-under class,
No. 7 Mary Grace Rivero outplayed Samantha Coyiuto, 7-5, 6-4, to
advance in the quarterfinals against third seed Martina Guba, who
blasted Ma. Akita San Andres, 6-0, 6-0.
In other matches, unseeded Sally
Mae Siso eliminated No. 4 JV Custodio, 6-1, 6-0, while Macy Gonzales
ousted No. 8 Alyssa Mendoza, 6-2, 6-2.
In the boys’ 18-under, top seed
Russell Arcilla Jr. blasted JB Yulo, 6-0, 6-0, while No. 2 Mark
Balce clobbered Edson Evangelista, 6-1, 6-1, to advance in the
quarterfinals slots in this tournament supported by PLDT Vibe, Chris
Sports, Head rackets, Cebuana Lhuillier, Persiana Grill and
Restaurant.
Other winners were No. 4 James
Carl Canete over France Rivero, 6-0, 6-1, No. 5 Akio Sy over Chadi
Lao, 6-1, 6-1, and No. 7 John Michael Tamayo over Bernardo Mamaril,
6-0, 6-0, Jonathan Murrell over John Altiche, 6-0, 6-0, and Mico
Santiago over Marlo Espedido, 6-1, 6-3.
In the boys’ 14-under category,
Fritz Verdad beat Joshua Santiago, 6-3, 6-3, Jurence Mendoza whipped
John Dubouzet, 6-0, 6-0, and Angelo Rivero trounced Joachim Samson,
6-3, 6-3, to join favorites Kyle Cordero, Bernardine Siso, John Man-rick
Ribaya, Arjohn de la Cruz and Jacob Lagman in the next round.
