The Metropolitan Museum of Manila will bring one of
its traveling exhibits, Living Culture: Contemporary Indian Textiles
and Fashion in Vigan, Ilocos Norte, as part of the museum’s summer
activities this year. The exhibit will be on at the Vigan Municipal
from April 14 to May 30. To showcase the region’s craftsmanship
and artistry, a complementary exhibit of the abel Iloko, the
handwoven fabric that made Ilocos popular, will also be mounted.
The said traveling exhibit of the
MET Museum is a collection of contemporary Indian textiles and
fashion. The linens and clothes in the collection are inspired by
the rich, traditional textile techniques of the nine states of
India. Eight designers collaborated to work on the Living Culture
project that showcased the country’s textile tradition as a living
culture.
“The Living Culture outreach
exhibit is just one of the outreach programs that we have at the MET
Museum. Activities, like this, are excellent educational tools that
inspire people to preserve our own culture and traditions as
well,” said Eric Babar Zerrudo, Metropolitan Museum of Manila of
director.
Other outreach programs of the
Metropolitan Museum of Manila lined up this summer include the UST
Architecture Exhibit in Santa Cruz, Laguna, (ongoing until April
30); Baray; Water in Khmer Arts and Life in Pagsanjan, Laguna,
(April) Wood Stone and Shells in Banaue, Ifugao, (May); City
Beautiful: The Burnham Plan of Manila’s Development in Baguio,
Benguet, (May); Figuring Narratives: Letras Y Figuras as Worldviews
in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, (June), and K and K in Malolos, Bulacan,
(June).
