Roco hit for antiautism bias

Team Unity said over the weekend that the disparaging remarks made by Genuine Opposition senatorial candidate Sonia Roco against persons with autism “is really what the GO candidates have in their subconscious, a total disdain for the marginal and physically-afflicted sectors.”

“There is nothing in the GO candidates—in their advocacy and agenda—that is about the marginal sectors or the dispossessed. To them politics is about power, the quest for it for personal ends,” Team Unity deputy spokesman Tonypet Albano said. “Sonia Roco was just being truthful when she made her remarks on autistic persons,” he added.

Dang Uy Koe, president of the autism society, has condemned Roco’s disparaging remarks.

Albano said that no amount of apology could make up for the “spontaneous and legitimate feeling of Mrs. Roco toward autistic people.”

He said the GO has anchored its political agenda on seeking political power to “oust President Arroyo, push the country into another round of political destabilization and flame the fire of chaos.”

In this very narrow and selfish context, Albano said, “There is no room for compassion and concern toward the underprivileged.”
