President sees husband
leaving hospital this week

By Sam Mediavilla, Reporter

President Arroyo on Monday announced that her husband, Atty. Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo, could leave St. Luke’s within the week and continue his recovery at home.

The President said she and her family were all hopeful that Arroyo’s doctors would agree to discharge him soon.

Mike Arroyo had open heart surgery and developed kidney complications but is now completely out of danger and on the way to a full recovery, his doctors said.

In an interview, Mrs. Arroyo narrated that she and her husband had a much longer conversation Monday at the hospital.

She said they talked for 15 minutes. She added that he has been talking freely and normally after his doctors removed the respirator on Saturday.

Unfortunately, she added, he was deprived of the joy of watching Manny Pacquiao’s win against his Mexican opponent Jorge Solis.

The President said Mr. Arroyo was not allowed to watch the fight because as the doctors thought it might have been too much excitement for his mending heart.
