House allies back Palace move to sue GO for libel
House leaders on Monday backed
the plan of Malacańang to sue the Genuine Opposition (GO) over its
allegedly libelous TV political advertisements against the
government.
House Majority Leader Prospero
Nograles of Davao City and Rep. Douglas Cagas of Davao del Sur said
the decision of the administration was right as they described the
new GO ads as a “twisted handiwork of the opposition.”
Nograles, who heads the House
Committee on Rules, denounced the GO ads was obviously intended to
hit the government but hiding the opposition’s own failures.

Comelec ruling on LP slams GO,
says TU
The decision of the Commission on
Elections on the Liberal Party controversy has delivered a “triple
whammy” on the senatorial campaign of the Genuine Opposition (GO),
the Team Unity said Monday.
The Comelec voided the LP
presidency of Sen. Franklin Drilon, saying that the amendment to the
party charter allowing Drilon to stay on as party head until
November 2007 had not been ratified by party leaders. The poll body
ordered an immediate election to determine who should head the
party.
Tonypet Albano, deputy spokesman
of the Team Unity, said this latest “whammy” would firm up the
hold of pro-administration leaders in the party and push it into the
TU axis.
He said that the “whammies”
that earlier hit GO were “the surging anti-opposition sentiment in
Metro Manila and a clear pro-administration sweep of the
congressional elections.”
