Libanan is new immigration chief

MalacaŅang said on Wednesday that President Arroyo has named Rep. Marcelino Libanan of Eastern Samar as the new immigration commissioner in place of Alipio Fernandez.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Libanan, the vice-chairman of the House Committee on Justice, has not taken his oath.

Libanan was a BS Medical Technology graduate at the Divine World University in Tacloban where he also took his Bachelor of Laws.

He is married to Elda Ellado a teacher at the Taft National High in Eastern Samar.

Before his stint at the House of Representatives, Libanan was a consultant for National Manpower and Youth Council and vice-governor of Eastern Samar from 1992 to 1995.
