Scuba diving 101

VERDE ISLAND sea passage, between the provinces of Mindoro and Batangas, has been identified as the “center of the center” of the world’s marine shorefish diversity by Kent Carpenter, global marine species coordinator for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, and Victor Springer of the Smithsonian Institute, as reported by Agence France Presse recently.

“This area can be considered the marine counterpart to the Amazon River basin,” says Carpenter, co-author of the study, which put the passage at the peak of the “Coral Triangle” that spans the Sulawesi and the Sulu Seas in southern Philippines and nearby Indonesia.
