Mike Arroyo to stay longer in hospital

Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo needs to stay at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City for a few more days, his attending physician said Saturday.

Arroyo was supposed to be discharged either Saturday night or Sunday morning.

But in a medical bulletin Saturday, Dr. Juliet Cervantes cited five reasons why President Arroyo’s husband needs to extend his stay at the hospital.

Cervantes said that first, Arroyo needs to resume full ambulation after the high-risk open heart surgery he underwent two weeks ago.

Second, his medical team is still preparing a simulation of the patient’s normal activities outside the hospital. Cervantes said this is important so doctors can determine the health problems that may arise and come up with solutions while the patient is still in hospital.

The third consideration, Cervantes said, is that doctors need to observe the patient further especially after Arroyo nursed a fever Friday night. She said, however, that Arroyo’s temperature had already returned to normal.

The fourth reason is the resumption of Arroyo’s liquid diet.
