Summa cum laude
graduate competes in Mexico

IN the history of the local beauty pageants, only two winners are in the record books for having graduated summa cum laude. And both of them went to the University of the Philippines in Diliman.

Lizbeth Samson de Padua, Binibining Pilipinas-Universe of 1976 and reigning Binibining Pilipinas Universe Anna Theresa Luy Licaros are both exceptional ladies who continue to assert that beauty and brains can come in one exciting package. Some girls can be so blessed!

And their proud alma mater continues to reaffirm itself as the producer of truly deserving beauty pageant winners who carried the flag of the Philippines in the Miss Universe pageant. Take these names: Maria del Carmen Remedios Tuason (1858), Vida Valentina Fernandez Doria (1971), Lizveth Samson de Padua (1976), Criselda Geronima Flores Cecilio (1979), Maria Isabel Pagunsan Lopez (1982), Joyce Ann Fellosas Burton (1985), Sarah Jane Davis Paez (1989), Nina Ricci Caldo Alagao (2000), Zorayda Ruth Blanco Andam (2001) and Lia Andrea Aquino Ramos (2006).

Standing 5’9”, Licaros hopes to figure prominently in the Miss Universe finals scheduled on May 29. Margaret Wilson, the country’s representative to Miss World, is confident that Licaros will do the country proud. “She’s very articulate and I pray that she will see her dreams come true in Mexico.”

Wilson wasn’t the lone recipient of the Miss Watson’s special award at the recent Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant. Asia’s largest health and beauty retailer also handed out the Watsons Woman award to Anna Theresa Licaros, who is now in Mexico City, Mexico, carrying the colors for the Philippines in the ongoing Miss Universe pageant.

Through Watsons, Licaros brings with her the necessities that a beauty queen will need when she competes with more than 90 of the world’s most beautiful women in Mexico. At the recent sendoff press conference, Watsons presented Licaros with P50,000 worth of beauty products and P50,000 pocket money as she takes on the journey to hopefully become the third Miss Universe, after Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margarita Moran in 1973.

“We are glad that Watsons is with her in expressing the true beauty of the Filipino women to the world. Watsons works hand in hand in showcasing not just a woman’s physical beauty but also her positive outlook in life,” says Bobby Saneo, activation marketing manager of Watsons Philippines. “Watsons takes beauty seriously not only on the outside but also on the inside through offering its customers with products to keep them at their best.

After winning the crown of Bb. Pilipinas-Universe title, Licaros rigorously prepared for what is deemed as one of the most unforgettable moments of a woman’s life. And with Watsons helping her enhance her gift of beauty, she is now ready to face the world with confidence.

The elegance of a Filipina has been flavored with the spice and sweetness known to the world as one of the most alluring and most captivating. In Mexico, Licaros will be the personification of Watsons’ mantra to “look good, feel great, have fun.” That’s what being young and beautiful is all about.

Watsons has become the first choice of Filipinos as their preferred health and beauty chain. Watsons, with 167 outlets nationwide, offers Filipino the best line of products when it comes to beauty, personal care and hygiene. Watsons is under the health and beauty store chain giant, AS Watsons, which has more than 7,700 stores in over 1,800 cities worldwide.
