THE Aliw Awards Foundation Inc., in cooperation with
Pagcor, presents “The Best of Aliw” at the Airport Casino
Theater in Parañaque on today, April 24. The concert is a
traditional project of the foundation for the benefit of Aliw’s
Welfare Fund, which assists unemployed, ailing or deceased live
entertainers and their families.
The Best of Aliw features past
and present winners like Freddie Aguilar, Rico J. Puno, Ogie Alcasid,
Gary Valenciano and Nonoy Zuñiga. Also expected to show their
support are classical singers Alegria Ferrer and Ramon Acoymo, child
wonder Miguel Aguila, Faith Cuneta, the department of Foreign
Affairs Chorale, Dominic Savio Dance Troupe, Franco and Ayen Laurel,
Jed Madella, Arthur Manuntag, Maskulados, Sitti Navarro and the
Quezon City Performing Artists.
Incidentally, Aliw Awards
Foundation Inc. (AAFI) founding president Alice H. Reyes recently
announced that in view of the resignation of Babes Encarnacion as
president of the Foundation, Rema Tan Manzano has assumed the
presidency. Manzano was the group’s first vice president since
2005, and she will serve as president up to 2008, to complete the
remaining term of the resigned president.
Active in socio-civic projects,
Manzano has just retired as chief port collector of the Manila
Domestic Airport. During her stint in the government, she has
received awards from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the
Bureau of Customs Promotion Board.
Her other awards include
Outstanding Inner Wheel Club President, Area Governor of the Year by
the Toastmasters International and the Gintong Ina 2001 awardee for
Government and Public Sector by the Gintong Ina and Ama Foundation
Inc.
As member of the Aliw Awards
Foundation Board since 1998, Manzano is committed to seek the
attainment of the goals of the foundation: to elevate the standards
of Filipino live entertainment by a system of awards and
developmental workshops as well as to assist unemployed, ailing and
deceased live entertainers and their families. Hopefully, Manzano
will lessen the ‘palakasan’ in the selection of winners to
redeem the foundation for making undeserving choices through the
years.
Tickets are available at the
AAFI office (521-8078) and at the venue.
