Don’t muddle issues in journalist’s slay–NPC

The National Press Club is asking all sectors not to muddle the investigation into killing of the Nueva Ecija broadcaster Mark Palacios on Wednesday, as it condemned in the strongest terms the brutal killing of the journalist.

The NPC is sad that certain politicians in Nueva Ecija are riding on the death of this Radyo ng Bayan reporter, who is not only known for his hard-hitting reports, but also for his well-meaning assistance to his fellow Nueva Ecijanos.

To give a clear picture of the killing of Palacios of Guimba, Nueva Ecija, NPC President Roy Mabasa, together with VP Benny Antiporda, personally coordinated with the family of Palacios and with the authorities, specifically with the National Bureau of Investigation, to ensure that the perpetrators will be brought to the bar of justice.

“The brutal murder of Palacios is the most serious attack against press freedom. He is now laid in a closed casket because the sight of his [body] could send anybody to chill. This is a signal that all the groups of journalists must now close their ranks and work together toward the end of this,” Mabasa said.

The NPC will not only provide legal aide to prosecute the case of Palacios, but will also extend educational assistance to his children.
