BURGER KING and Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala dispute
the solo lead Tuesday even as San Miguel-Magnolia tries to barge
into the win-column in the 2007 PBL Unity Cup at the Olivarez Sports
Center. Both sporting 2-0 win-loss cards, the Cebuana Moneymen and
Burger Whoppers cross paths at 2 p.m. in a game expected to be a
bruising and exciting one.
The San Miguel Beverage Masters
must raise their game several notches to avoid falling into a 0-3
hole as they face a formidable squad in Dazz ’Sang Patak at 4 p.m.
Though the Kitchen Specialists
absorbed a heart-breaking 78-81 loss to defending champion Harbour
Centre Saturday, jaded observers still installed them slight
favorites over the Beverage Masters.
For one, Dazz boasts of fearsome
backcourt combination in Reed Juntilla, Mark Moreno and Jayford
Rodriguez who can complement with their tall frontcourt combo of
Larry Rodriguez Philip Butel.
Juntilla averaged 20.5 points in
the team’s first two games.
“We started strong against
Harbour but the breaks of the game went against us in the
homestretch. Still, I’m confident we can bounce back strong,”
said coach Jun Noel. “But we have to play real smart both in
offense and defense to beat San Miguel.”
The Beverage Masters are not
lacking in star materials with the presence of veteran Al Magpayo,
Jeff Chan, Bonbon Custodio and Jonas Villanueva.
Problem is some of them tend to
play without the sense of urgency as shown in their first two games
that displeased coach Koy Banal.
Focus in the Burger King-CL Pera
Padala game is the marquee showdown between JR Quiñahan and Kenneth
Bono. The 6-foot-5 Quinahan thrives best in the shaded area
but against the Moneymen, he will have his hands full.
Besides the hulking Bono, Quiñahan
must also contend with the 6-foot-5 Doug Kramer.
The Burger King Whoppers will be
without head coach Lawrence Chongson who left for the United States
last Saturday. Allan Gregorio will call the shots for the team in
their next three games.
Out to give Quiñahan the
much-needed support are Ronjay Buenafe, Mike Bravo, Nestor David and
Jim Viray.
