Increase blamed on greater use of expensive fuel |

Consumer power bills
to go up next month |
|
By Euan Paulo C. Añonuevo,

FILIPINOS should brace for higher
bills next month, as demand for electricity is expected to peak in
May, and extreme heat is forcing the use of power plants running on
more expensive fuel, according to the operator of the country’s
energy spot market.
In a briefing, Mario Pangilinan,
vice-president for operations of the Philippine Electricity Market
Corp. (PEMC), said the peak demand registered in April at around
6,600 megawatts, or 200 megawatts more than earlier forecast, will
“be surpassed in the coming month because May is the historical
annual peak for the Luzon grid.”
