Convergys abounds with drive and talent

The success of any company can be directly attributed to the talent of its employees. This is an adage that Convergys Corp. knows particularly well. Excelling in what we do and serving as paragons to those around us, star individuals who come together to work as a team form the backbone of Convergys’s growth and accomplishment.

Keeping this in mind, it’s no wonder that Convergys (which won “Employer of the Year” from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority and ICT Awards in 2006) has managed to draw in some of the country’s most promising talents, both on the professional level and beyond.

Convergys’s diverse talents

Recently, Convergys’s very own band “Malaia” won in the prestigious CCAP (Call Center Association of the Philippines) Jammin ’07 Battle of the Bands after rendering a memorable performance at Le Pavilion, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City. The reigning champion of Convergys Rocks 2006, which made them Convergys’s official representative for the CCAP, Malaia is composed of talented Convergys employees from different resource and business units, Malaia competed against musical groups from other players in the local contact center industry and triumphantly came out on top, even bagging the CCAP’s “Band of the Year” award taking home P100,000 in cash and P50,000 worth of prizes.

Malaia is Convergys’s employees: Erik Feliciano (guitarist/vocalist) is a team leader, John Hermano (guitarist/vocalist) is an In-team program specific trainer, Johner Mafe (bass) and Billy Bidar (drummer) are agents while John Eric Tiongson (lead guitarist) is a quality coordinator.

Convergys prides itself in its rich resources of exceptionally talented people from all walks of life, as evidenced by Malaia. Diversity contributes to a stronger, more exciting team environment and is an important source of perspectives, opportunities and relationships for Convergys.

Concerned with personal actualization and professional performance, Convergys is committed to being a company in which all individuals are encouraged to flourish and succeed, regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Such an environment makes Convergys not only a better place to work but also better able to meet the needs of its clients.

An inspiration to succeed

“Convergys’s talents, like those of Malaia, bring about a great inspiration,” boasts Melanie Lara, Convergys senior manager for HR Operations. “Because of their achievements, not only in the competition but professionally as well, others have been inspired to do the same thing.”

Just as Convergys bested all others in its industry with the showcase of Malaia’s musical talents, this band’s achievement is also testament to how Convergys encourages the development of its front-liners. More than a mere example of artistic proficiency, such accomplishment serves as an exciting example of how Convergys is dedicated to being the best and encouraging the best from each and every one of its brilliant employees.

Melanie continues, “We at Convergys always look for talent that can be developed. And once we find it, we hold on to that talent so they can build themselves and become better and better, until they reach the top. Besides working hard, Convergys provides an avenue to showcase talents. We want dynamic people who can really achieve. Convergys has fantastic training and development programs for all levels as well as intensive learning programs.”

Play hard, work harder

“Work ethic is common to all of us,” says John Hermano, Malaia’s lead vocalist. Dubbed as the group’s “brains” by his bandmates, John admits, “Healthy competition is what makes our job fun while also honing our skills and building our careers.”

“Yes, we want to stand out from the rest, not only with our music but through our work.” Malaia’s other vocalist, Erik Feliciano, interjects, “At Convergys we work hard because we are part of a strong company where our future is stable. There are so many opportunities for growth within this growing company that continuously enhance our talents and skills.”

Melanie Lara adds, “Truly Convergys prides itself on the talents, skills, and professionalism of its workforce - People that are eager to develop and succeed. We want everyone to know that they can grow with us personally and professionally. Our company is filled with people with drive and talent and we want each and every one of them to realize their potentials It’s this kind of passion that Convergys is proud of!”
