Suspension blamed on fuel shortage

Napocor suspends power sale discounts

STATE-OWNED National Power Corp. (Napocor) is suspending its one-day power sales (ODPS) program due to fuel shortages at two of the Philippines’ biggest generating plants.

The ODPS is a scheme whereby heavy electricity users can buy excess power from Napocor at discounted rates. Purchases made through the program would allow buyers to enjoy discounts of from 10 percent to 20 percent off the tariff approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission. The program, which allows for the daily public bidding for the surplus energy online, is popular among factories that count power as one of their biggest costs.
