ritual |

The ritual of bloodshed that is played out every elec
tion season has become even more intense as May 14 draws nearer. In
Jaen, Nueva Ecija, supporters of two rival political kingpins shot
it out in the middle of town, the gunfight leaving a candidate for
municipal councilor and a policeman dead and 12 others wounded.
In San Carlos City, Pangasinan,
the mayor was attacked by gunmen at the height of the city fiesta,
wounding him critically.
