Women’s team in crucial tournament

THE fate of the RP women’s basketball team to the 24th Southeast Asian Games will be known after their stint in the 2007 Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championships slated September 3-9 in Singapore.

Women’s national head coach Fritz Gaston said that the Seaba tournament is the basis of the SEA Games Task Force whether they will make it or not in the Philippine delegation to the Thailand Games in December.

“The outcome of the team’s stint in the Seaba will determine if they will play in the 24th Southeast Asian Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, this December. It’s some sort of a precondition set by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee,” said Gaston.

The RP cagebelles must finish third overall to achieve the qualifying standard set by the Task Force along with the PSC and POC. “We have to win at least a bronze to qualify for the SEA Games,” added Gaston.
