POLICE arrested at dawn Wednesday an alleged member
of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front suspected of having to do with
the 2005 ambush killing of Vice-Mayor Andy Maulana of Zamboanga City
and his two police escorts.
Senior Supt. Magtanggol Gatdula,
Quezon City Police chief, identified the arrested man as Monatser
Sulaiman, alias Camon Sulaiman, 29, said to be a native of Dinas,
Binuatan town, Zamboanga del Sur.
Gatdula said elements of the
Batasan Police Station 6 nabbed Sulaiman at around 3 a.m. on
Ilang-Ilang Street, Batasan Hills, Quezon City, after he was
observed concealing a sachet containing shabu.
Gatdula added that he had earlier
received information that Sulaiman was implicated in the ambush
murder of Maulana almost two years ago.
Maulana and his two police
escorts were killed by still unidentified suspects on August 27,
2005, in Zamboanga City.
Gatdula said he is now
coordinating with the Zamboanga City Police Office for the
suspect’s proper disposition. Sulaiman will also be charged with
violating the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002.
