Ilocos Sur gov orders setting
up of quarantine station for hogs

VIGAN CITY: Gov. Deogracias Victor Savellano has ordered the setting up of a quarantine station in Barangay Bio, Tagudin, to ensure that all animals being shipped to the province are healthy.

Savellano issued the order in the wake of the outbreak of hog cholera in Pampanga and Bulacan that may spread here through hogs being brought in by traders.

“We are now airing over the radio the preventive measures we are now undertaking against this animal disease,” Savellano said.

He said the quarantine station will be manned by personnel of the provincial government, provincial veterinary office, the municipality of Tagudin, local policemen, the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, members of the community and involvement service and officials and watchmen of Barangay Bio, Tagudin town.

Savellano asked Vice-Governor Jerry Singson and provincial board member Gerry Lahoz to assist in the creation of the quarantine checkpoint in Tagudin.

“Barangay Bio, which is the boundary between La Union province and Ilocos Sur, is the best place to establish the quarantine, considering that it is the gateway to Ilocandia,” he said.

Savellano also plans to put up quarantine checkpoints at the boundaries of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, and of Abra province.
