Piltel set to reduce landline charges

PILIPINO Telephone Corp. (Piltel) said it will cut charges on local wire line services this month.

In a submission to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Piltel said its currency exchange rate adjustment (CERA) further dropped by 15 percent in August from an 8-percent decline in the previous month.

As of July, the dollar cost Piltel P46.10 against the base rate of P37.31 in 1998.

Piltel said the currency adjustment provisions allows it to increase or decrease its local service rates by 1 percent for every 10 centavo upward or downward change in the peso-dollar exchange rate.

The telecommunications company will now charge residential subscribers with rotary set at P378.40 a month from P392.08, and those with trunkline at P451.60. Commercial subscribers with rotary set will be charged P756.75, while single line with pushbutton set and business trunklines will be levied P830 and P1,133, respectively.

Areas covered by the adjustment include Baguio City, Boac, Marindue; Puerto Princesa, Palawan; Masbate, Sulu, Zamboanga del Norte and del Sur; Tawi-Tawi, Misamis Occidental, Davao del Sur, South Cotobato and Sarangani province. Also covered are subscribers in Olongapo, Zam-bales, Masbate, Mogpog, Ma-rinduque; General Santos and Digos, Davao del Sur.
