Girl Power Lives On!

By Mojo Jojo

Viva forever! The Spice Girls are ready
to rock the world again with their
Reunion Tour

It was more than a decade ago since Emma Bunton, Mel Brown, Mel Chisholm, Victoria Adams and Geri Halliwell rose to super star status as the “in your face” British girl group “The Spice Girls.” Better known by their hordes of fanatics around the globe as Baby, Scary, Sporty, Posh and Ginger, the Spice Girls became a phenomenon that helped defined a generation. Through their upbeat anthems, colorfully kitschy costumes, and multimillion-dollar making image, which spawned numerous albums, concerts, endorsements and even a movie, this singing and dancing quintet pushed the epitome of “Girl Power.”

Much has changed since then and the girls have since become women with separate lives of their own. Since 2001, each member has since pursued solo careers with varying degrees of success, while Posh Spice has become better known as fashion icon Victoria Beckham.

Now the Girls are back in the limelight as a complete group once again with the announcement of their 2007 Spice Girls Reunion World Tour, which is being put together by Simon Fuller, whose 19 company masterminded the group’s global success more than a decade ago. They are expected to perform in Vancouver, San Jose, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Las Vegas, New York, London, Köln, Madrid, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Cape Town and Sydney during December and January. But with the unprecedented demand for more “Girl Power,” the Spice Girls have announced that they will be adding another special concert date for the “Spice City” that gets the most votes as nominated on group’s official website. Who knows, with the Filipino penchant for coming together on the World Wide Web, would it be possible for Manila to be dubbed “Spice City?” We’ll just have to wait and see.
